We regularly perform testings of nitrogen oxide (NOx), particulate matter (PM) generated with production to ensure that we minimize the environmental and community impacts.

 
Air Pollutants Preventive Measures
We use the natural gas-fired boilers for our manufacturing operation; therefore, no sulfur oxide (SOx) emissions. The particulate matter, PM, created from the production processes were collected and filtered by the cyclone separator before the discharge, and regular emission tests are carried out and monitored.
In 2022
  • Particulate matter emissions were 22.24 tons, which was a 6.1% reduction when compared to 23.683 tons discharged in 2021.
  • Nitrogen oxide, NOx, emissions were 2.995 tons, which was a 2.44% reduction when compared to 3.07 tons discharged in 2021.

In 2022
1 air pollution violation occurred. Shalu plant had a violation that the surrounding odor discharged exceeded the regulatory standard, a fine totaled NT$120,000. We collaborated with the National Taipei University of Technology to treat and monitor odor emissions. The preventive actions taken were the purchase of odor treatment equipment, a cost of NT$4.90 million, production process equipment upgrades, and the maintenance of cyclone separator, total cost of NT$2.75 million, to prevent violations from occurring in the future.

 
Wastewater Preventive Measures
The wastewater generated from our operation were treated prior to discharge in compliance to "Wastewater Treatment Rules and Procedures". Each plant has each own treatment procedures.
  • Shalu plant:
Wastewater generated during manufacturing are processed by the wastewater treatment center then discharged. We outsource an accredited agency to verify the contents of wastewater meet the regulatory standards of discharge.
  • Other plants and Charming Food:
In accordance to the Industrial Park wastewater processing standards and discharge regulations, the treated wastewater then discharged to the wastewater treatment system of the Industrial Park.
In 2022, water reclamation usage as follows:
  • At Shalu plant, the reclamation and use of steam condensate were 13,697 tons and 1,924 tons of the process cooling water, respectively.
  • Charming Food used 307,887 tons of water and reclaimed 35,604 tons of wastewater, a reclamation rate of 11.57%.
Compared to the water consumption of 254,396 tons which reclaimed 32,197 tons in 2021, the reclamation rate decreased by 10.58%, mainly due to the membrane bioreactor, MBR, of the wastewater treatment system was plugged from excess usage; thus, a decrease in reclamation.

Waste Management
All of the waste generated from our production are initially processed and categorized in accordance to the "Solid Waste Clean-up Plan Report". Then the waste management company would transport the waste and submit the related information to the relevant agency.
From time to time, we would trail the waste management truck to ensure proper disposal.

In 2022, we reclaimed 324.39 tons from the general waste, and 111.66 tons of non-reusable wastes were disposed by the waste management company.

The food waste and bleaching clay from Taichung Harbor plant were transported to Lukang plant to process into fertilizers, to extend the useful life of resources.

  • 0.597kg of sodium cyanide,
  • 5.38kg of acetonitrile
  • 0.136kg of boron trifluoride.

These hazardous liquid waste were transported by the certified hazardous substance wastecompany to National Cheng Kung University Environment Research Management Recycle Center.
